Founded in 1222 by scholars seeking greater autonomy from Bologna, the University of Padua is a public university that Galileo Galilei called home for what he described as ‘the best eighteen years of my life’. In 1678 it awarded Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia the first doctorate earned by a woman in modern history, and it is the only Italian university awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valour for WWII resistance. Padua offers an extensive catalogue of English-taught Bachelor’s, Master’s and single-cycle Master’s programmes across engineering, sciences, medicine, psychology, economics and humanities.
